Description:
The Core Construction is a program that was designed by members of the Associated Builders and Contractors and Grand Rapids Community College with the goal of developing basic construction skills related to commercial building. It is envisioned that this knowledge will be delivered, based on NCCER curriculum, with the addition of hands-on active learning, where skills and theory are practiced by participants in order to ensure competent construction employees.
Potential Credentials to be earned: OSHA 10, Rough Terrain Forklift License, Scaffold Competent Person certification, and NCCER class certifications for some modules. Students will receive a laminated card from NCCER and a card from GRCC that shows the modules they successfully completed and the date of that completion.
There are 13 different workshops with this program: OSHA 10 hr, First Aid/CPR, Construction Math, Basic Commercial Drawing, Hand/Power Tools, Rigging, Communications/Teamwork/Employability, Material Handling, Competent Person Scaffold, Rough Terrain Fork Lift, Aerial Lift, Asbestos Awareness and Lead Awareness.
