Water Career Camp for 6th - 9th Graders!

Description:

Is your child interested in the environment, sustainability or STEM?

The Water Career camp explores the Urban (Human) Water Cycle and the various careers in water. Campers will follow the lifecycle of our water, including where our water comes from, how it is treated and how to measure water quality. They will see how waste water is treated and returned to the environment.

Campers will participate in hands-on experiments, activities and tour worksites in west Michigan to see all of the careers that make up a public works system and the vital role they play in our communities.

This camp requires permission to travel to tour the drinking water plant on the lakeshore and to the wastewater treatment plant in Grand Rapids. Kids will experience what happens when a water main breaks and how it gets fixed!

Part of the tour is outside, so please dress for the weather. Campers will spend a significant amount of time moving around, digging, building, and handling projects as a team; therefore, please plan on getting a little dirty.

This camp is taught by Hillary Caron, a water educator with the City of Grand Rapids Water System.

Please note: As a part of this camp, students must receive written approval from their parent or guardian to leave campus in a College van or bus to travel to local public works sites.
Food Allergy Notice: If you have a food allergy or a special dietary requirement, please bring your own lunch. Thank you.

Due to grant funding requirements, students may only register for one camp.
