Mistake Proofing

Description:

Mistake proofing will take participants through the relationship of Complexity to Design Error Proofing. Comparative design alternatives for Complexity and potentially higher defect rates will be categorized to distinguish between Common and Special Causes of Problems. Case study will allow students to prioritize the most important problems to mistake proof first, refine the problem classification using a reference list and report the possible weaknesses of "pre-categorized" solutions.

Outcomes:
  • State why Statistical Quality Control alone is inadequate for producing the quality levels demanded in today's business environment and therefore why Mistake Proofing is so valuable
  • Distinguish between Special and Common Causes of process variation
