Public works employees are vitally important in our communities, and in great demand across West Michigan. Municipalities are looking for people who are passionate about improving the lives of those around them.

The need is great, communities have partnered with Grand Rapids Community College to develop a hands-on learning experience that prepares people for great careers and opportunities in public works.

Successful graduates of the Public Works Academy will receive interviews with community partners for possible employment opportunities at public works facilities in West Michigan.

Job titles include:
  • Building Specialist
  • Engineering Technician
  • Equipment Operator
  • Fleet Services Technician
  • Maintenance Worker for utilities, streets, grounds, buildings
  • Parking Violations Checker
  • Plant Assistant
  • Safety Specialist
  • Tree Trimmer
  • Truck driver

This is open to individuals over 18 years old who are ready to work.
Must have a valid driver's license, good driving record, and no recent DUI's.
High school diploma or GED is recommended.
