Mindful Eating: A Different Approach to Escape the Diet Trap The emphasis of this mindful eating class is on experiential engagement. You'll learn how you relate to food, eating, and your body, in skillful and unskillful ways. The course focuses on building skills as you explore, experience and learn core aspects of mindful eating. You start simply! Mindful eating exercises, simple mindfulness practices, gentle movement, helpful information and discussion to begin your path. When you travel that path, taking small steps. You'll be able to re-establish a healthy and joyful relationship with food and eating. Ultimately, you'll know how to better take care of yourself. About Your Instructor: Werner Absenger, Ph.D., M.S. Dr. Absenger is the Program Director at GRCC's Secchia Institute for Culinary Education. His Ph.D. in Mind-Body Medicine and his Masters in Human Nutrition make him uniquely qualified to teach this course. He has completed research training at the University of Texas, mindfulness training through the University of California, MD Anderson Cancer Center and San Diego School of Medicine's Center for Mindfulness. Dr. Werner aims to empower and improve the quality of life of West Michigan's cancer survivors, their loved ones, caregivers, and people living with chronic disease. He does so by focusing his interests on research, education, and integration of evidence-based nutrition and mindfulness modalities. The culinary medicine program is a collaboration between Spectrum Health, Downtown Market, Tulane University's Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine and the Secchia Institute for Culinary Education. Culinary medicine brings dietitians, physicians and chefs together to learn about the powerful influence food has on health and disease. Mindful eating is based on clinical research. It is a truly unique, natural extension of culinary medicine. Dr. Werner is excited to offer the "Mindful Eating: A Different Approach to Escape the Diet Trap" class through GRCC's Continuing Education & Professional Development programming.
