Value Stream Mapping Series

Description:

There are 6 different modules which are 4 hours long with this series: Current Value Stream Mapping, Value Stream Mapping Improvement Bursts, Future Value Stream Mapping, Introduction to Lean Product Development, Introduction to High Mix / Low Volume Applications, and Monetizing the VSM / Shopfloor Return on Investment

VSM? is 'map' of the activities your organization does, both value added (the customer is willing to pay for) and non-value added (the customer is not willing to pay for), to meet your customers' needs/requirements.

A Value Stream Map depicts the:

  • Flow of information and materials from receipt from the supplier to delivery to the customer

  • Steps required to transform the inputs to the customer's desired output(s)

  • Flow of information which supports and directs the above activities

VSM is a powerful tool in our lean/continuous improvement tool-bag that graphically shows the current flow with all of its waste. Then it shows the future state flow that eliminates waste creating greater 'flow' and reducing the time it takes to produce a product.

Frequently, there are multiple value streams within a company, each of which is related to a specific family of products or services.

VSM - Introduction to Lean Product Development

Today, speed to market can be everything. Design teams need to be flexible, fast and effective. Applying lean in product development requires optimizing the growth of knowledge about product, customer and manufacturing. This workshop is an introduction into lean product development. It is a practical approach for accelerating time-to-market through waste elimination in planning, resource management, design control and interdisciplinary communication.

VSM - Introduction to High Mix / Low Volume Applications

Small companies generally have a complex environment driven by relatively small orders of a large variety of different parts from many customers. Changes in customer demand seem to happen frequently making it difficult to smooth production. The purpose of this workshop is to show how to apply the various lean tools and techniques to the world of varying cycle times, a large mix of products, small orders and changing customer demand.

VSM - Monetizing the VSM/Shopfloor Return on Investment

Are you asked to justify lean improvement projects by showing Return On Investment (ROI)? Do you need to determine before lean implementation begins what the savings could be? Have you tried to put dollar values to value stream improvements? This workshop will explore how to monetize your value stream improvement impacts using the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA)/scientific method to provide a learning approach to achieve targeted goals.
