Stabilizing for Flow

Description:

This workshop will explore how to identify stability-related problems in a value stream and select tools/ techniques that will minimize or eliminate their impact. The key is to establish systems that prevent problems from recurring. The basic concepts of machine stability, operational availability and process stability will be discussed using an on-going problem-solving system. Instruction, discussion and hands-on exercises will be used to help participants learn how to identify key stability-related issues in a value stream. Specifically, you will learn how to:
  • Organize production data for effective analysis
  • Locate key problem spots in the value stream
  • Learn simple data collection methods that pinpoint stability related issues
  • Transform maintenance roulette approaches to a structured winning formula
  • Implement data collection methods related to maintaining stability
  • Identify how to get to root cause of problems for ease of solution
  • Learn about maintenance techniques that support the life cycle of equipment
  • What role team leaders and group leaders play in facilitating stability
  • Recognize how variation encumbers an effective flow

Outcomes:
  • Compare takt time to actual line capacity
  • Calculate the impact of each type of variation loss
  • Identify bottlenecks in each value stream and apply tools/ techniques to fix them
  • State the six big losses in a production line
  • Describe the steps to create a data-based factual understanding of stability problems
  • Explain key maintenance concepts to be used over the life cycle of equipment
  • Describe how to maintain process standards through changes in people's roles and responsibilities
