CNC Turning / CNC Lathe
Description:
This class coves the components and tools used in basic cnc turning operations. The class focuses on set up and operations of the Haas CNC Lathe. Students will use GRCC lab to machine projects to hone their newly acquired skills. Each day of class will consist of 1 hour of lecture and 3 hours of lab time.
Course Outcomes
CNC TURNING CENTER (HAAS)
Manually operate machine
Send machine to home position
Differentiate between right and left hand cutting tools
Identify proper spindle rotation direction
Define tools in tool data menu
Measure tool offsets and select tools
List and delete programs in program file
Create a new program file
Select appropriate tooling, processes and cutting conditions to machine assigned parts
Program facing, profiling, grooving, threading and drilling operations
Use calculating features to determine taper and arc coordinates
Select appropriate speeds, feeds and depth of cut
Verify toolpath using toolpath feature
Test program using simulate feature
Perform set-up operations for each
Demonstrate competency by machining final project
Program using proper G and M Codes
Requirements to complete the class:
Students must demonstrate skills by completing project work.
Instructor Profile:
Andy Beach has been a leader in the manufacturing industry for 20 years from owning a CNC shop, starting and managing a manufacturing team in a multi-million-dollar company, working as an Applications Engineer for a top machine sales company. A senior CNC machinist and programmer. Andy has an associate degree from Ferris State University in Manufacturing Tooling Technology. Currently he owns a consulting business where he provides instruction both in Industry and at Grand Rapids Community College.
