West Michigan Green Infrastructure Training Program

Description:

Participants will understand Green Stormwater Infrastructure (GSI) by:
  • Learning watersheds, stormwater, and an overview on green infrastructure
  • Through hands-on lessons that demonstrate how these systems work
  • Experience locations where GI is being used
  • Learning about the materials used
  • Building and testing models
  • Review safety gear and behaviors
  • Visit construction sites and note safety precautions
  • Inspect GSI
  • Multiple opportunities to review and practice a site inspection checklist on differing types of GSI


Who might be interested or benefit from this training?
Anyone who likes to work outside, enjoys gardening, concerned about water quality and beautifying their neighborhood. Any professional that has a stake in the quality of the water system. If you have just started your career in stormwater management and others just wanting to learn more. We are hoping that GRCC can recruit others who are interested in landscaping or DPW jobs.

There will be several service-learning days (up to 8 hours) offered for participants to do some training in the field on their own.

  • Kent Conservation District native plant sale
  • LGROW Rainscaping installation projects
  • WMEAC Rain barrel workshops
  • And more!
